Founded in 1983, Wacom has established itself as the leader in the world market for pen tablets and a pioneer in the development of the pen as a computer input device. This success has evolved from a more fundamental and original vision in Wacom to make our computing environment more natural, so the power of computer technology can be used more flexibly, and for a wider variety of applications. In short, to create harmony between the user and his technical environment.

Historically, the pen and paintbrush have been among the most familiar tools used by man as a means of communication and expression – it is therefore quite natural that in the age of computers, the pen should be rediscovered. Wacom has focussed on developing and promoting the pen as a means to facilitate creativity in graphics. While the scope of Wacom′s contribution and success is wider than this field alone, its achievement in graphics does illustrate Wacom ′s competence and ambitions.

Wacom′s current product range is based on its patented electromagnetic technology (′penabled′ technology) which is the key to cordless, battery-less and pressure sensitive computer input devices that have become standard equipment for a large section of the graphics design community, both professional and amateur. This ingenious technology, coupled with attention to design quality, functionality and ergonomic detail, are the major factors which have contributed to the company′s considerable success in the European, North American and Asian pen tablet markets.

Wacom has never restricted itself to pen tablets, however. Recently we see the pen coming more and more popular in a wide range of digital devices. Wacom has been a part of this development for many years and has been a pioneer in Pen Computing since 1990. Wacom does not limit itself to pens either, but looks for opportunities to develop any type of products which could make computers or digital devices more intuitive and natural.
